Best Reminders for Brushing Baby Teeth

Best Reminders for Brushing Baby Teeth Cleaning your baby’s first set of teeth is a good start to promote healthy teeth and gums.

This set of teeth may be small yet they have a huge role when your child grows up. Without the complete set of teeth, your child may experience difficulties in speaking clearly and chewing foods.

Even they are not yet teething, the gums also must receive the proper treatment and care it deserve as it is the foundation for upcoming baby teeth.

The Right Time to Brush Baby Teeth

If your baby doesn’t have teeth yet, clean their gums using a soft moistened washcloth. Do this after their feeding time and before you lay them to bed at night.

Around 6 months, front teeth are already developing and noticeable. In this period, teeth must be cleaned with child-sized toothbrush without including the toothpaste.

The right and easiest way to brush their teeth is through laying the child on your lap while supporting the head. Then, clean the teeth gently.

Proper Toothpaste Use for Baby Teeth

When they reached 18 months old, your child could now use toothpaste in a small pea-sized amount. The toothpaste must be low in fluoride, which is also known as baby toothpaste.

With adult supervision, your child can safely and efficiently use the toothpaste. To be sure that teeth are cleaned correctly, guide your kids with their oral hygiene until they are 8 years old.

Precautions

  • Excess toothpaste must be spitted out; thus you need to encourage your child to do it.
  • If your child is unable to spit out, wipe their mouth using tissue or washer.
  • Keep toothpaste out of their reach.
  • Other children admire the flavour of toothpaste and are even willing to eat it when there’s a chance.
  • Toothpaste can lead to fluorosis when eaten. That is why store the toothpaste where they can’t reach and find it.
